Slashing and burning their way into the set, Greyhoundz blazed a blistering musical revue of a decade’s worth of hard-hitting rock while a rapt audience followed them deep into music’s heart of darkness. In their aptly titled concert Dekada, held last November 16 in Club Dredd, Greyhoundz ran amuck with their instruments as they showed the crowd just why they are still a force to be reckoned with, ten years after they razed their way into the top of the Pinoy Nu-Metal scene.
Along with Queso and Slapshock, Greyhoundz is part of local music’s unholy trinity, the three bands that strike fear into the heart of concert producers for their fearless stage presence and bizarre (and oftentimes) violently devoted fans. Excesses aside though, what truly keeps Greyhoundz and their nu-metal comrades on top is their devotion to well-crafted songs, professionalism in their careers and the understanding that past the costumes and shrieks of their fans, theirs is an intelligent audience, a group that refuses to be stereotyped and dumbed down by sloppy riffs and simple onstage bravura. Their fans are the staunchest and most demanding of soldiers, so you better be ready and able when the lights go up. And Greyhoundz did just so.
